Conclusion
The Holocaust took a large toll on Europe and the Jewish population. It not only affected the country as a whole, but it affected the culture of the prisoners. The Holocaust was not the only mass genocide in our history. The situation in Darfur, Sudan shares a relation with the Holocaust. People cannot think that since the Holocaust happened, nothing like that could ever happen again because it is still happening every day. The Holocaust had a large impact on the entire world, not just the European countries. Although situations like the Holocaust are still occurring every day, people should take action to stop situations like this and treat everyone equal.

Reflection
While researching this topic I learned many new and different things. Even though I visited Dachau concentration camp personally, I did not know that was the first camp to be opened during the Holocaust. This was interesting to me because I did not learn this when I was there. Dachau being the first concentration camp to be opened started the epidemic of the rest of the concentration camps. I also did not know that as they Jewish people were in the concentration camps, they snuck and practiced their religion and culture. They continued to keep their faith strong and educate their people on history and religion. I found that this topic relates to multiple state standards. I found that the majority of the standards fell in third grade and sixth grade. The first standard is 3.H.1, the Holocaust was a major event that has influenced local and regional communities. Even though it happened long ago, it still had a large impact on our world. 3.C.1 refers to the diverse cultures in local and regional communities. All of the cultures that were involved in the Holocaust would be addressed and taught. Students need to know about the different cultures in the world and the Holocaust allows the teacher to take it across to the European countries. 6.H.2 I would address the political, economic, and social significance of the Holocaust. The Holocaust addresses all of these areas and the students would be able to learn about all three areas in one topic. 6.G.1. Since Germany was trying to expand their country as a whole, the Holocaust could be used to explain the expansion of civilizations and societies. 6.C.1. explain how the Nazi soldiers and the Jewish culture influenced societies, civilizations, and regions. All of these standards could be used when teaching the Holocaust. It addresses multiple areas and perspectives that are stated in the North Carolina State Standards.
During this project allowed me to look at multiple perspectives of teaching. Students need to know different perspectives of a topic and that is what I have done with this assignment. I have found different areas to address in the classroom that are crucial for the understanding of this massacre. If students do not learn all of the aspects of the Holocaust, they would be confused or have misconceptions about information. I have learned time management and organization. This project was very large and time consuming. In order to complete this project well I had to manage my time with it and complete parts in increments. There was so much information to obtain that I had to keep it all organized. I did not want to have everything in random places because then it would have been hard for me to organize my thoughts and information. I know that many elementary students will not be able to understand the severity of the Holocaust, but there are minor aspects that can be taught through this topic. This was a life changing situation for a lot of people and our world. The students need to understand how bad this was in order to keep it from happening in the future. Teachers are responsible of the knowledge they teach their students because their students are the world’s future.
