My Story
As you enter Dachau, it is a huge camp that is very open in space. Of course the original barracks that once stood during the 1930’s-1950 were not there. They had torn them all down and kept one barrack that was rebuilt to resemble what the original barracks looked like. To your left was the entire camp and to your right was the museum. In front of the museum was a massive sculpture that was very disturbing. It resembled the bone thin bodies that were found at Dachau once it was invaded. The sculptor was trying to portray what the victims went through and the end product of their lives. It was mangled humans that had no meat on their body and they were all twisted together as if they were lying in a pile. That was the beginning to our adventure through Dachau.
This picture shows a sculpture located at the front of the camp. It is a memorial of all the victims that died at Dachau. This picture was taken in June 2008.
Walking around Dachau I had a new opinion and perspective about the Holocaust. I saw all of the previous used barracks, the gas chamber, the crematorium, a tour through the museum, and other parts of the concentration camp. This experience was life changing and I would love to be able to visit other camps.
