Cultural Perspective of The Holocaust
Multiple cultures were affected by the Holocaust, but the one with the main focus was the Jewish culture. Even when the Jewish people were in concentration camps and the ghettoes, they still tried to incorporate their culture. Some things the Jewish people did were create artistic environments and have lectures about the Jewish religion and culture as a whole. The most important values to the Jewish population were education. Former teachers would give lessons to the rest of the people about history and religion. The Jewish holidays were still celebrated even though the Nazi soldier did not welcome or accept Hanukah in the concentration camps. The Nazi’s tried to keep the Jewish people from practicing their culture but they were not successful. The Jew’s found a way to secretly incorporate everything about their culture as best as they could (Elkins, n.d).
This is the crematorium where thousands of prisoners were burned. There were only two in the building so that is why a lot of the dead bodies were buried. This picture was taken in June 2008.
